Why Are There Many Religions and Disbelief If Islam Is the True Religion?

A Journey From Adam (AS) to Today

1. The Beginning: Prophet Adam (AS) — The First Messenger

Islam teaches that Adam (peace be upon him) was the first human and the first prophet sent by Allah.

  • Allah created Adam with knowledge and honored him above many creatures (Qur’an 2:31-34).

  • Adam was given guidance — the knowledge of worshiping Allah alone.

  • He taught his children and descendants to worship the One God and live righteously.

At this stage, the original message was pure monotheism (Tawheed) — worshiping Allah alone.

2. The Prophetic Chain — Guidance Throughout History

Allah did not leave humanity without guidance after Adam. He sent many prophets and messengers to different peoples across time and geography, including:

  • Noah (Nuh)

  • Abraham (Ibrahim)

  • Moses (Musa)

  • Jesus (Isa)

  • And many others (peace be upon them all)

Each prophet brought the core message of Islam: worship Allah alone, avoid false gods, live morally, and prepare for the Hereafter.

3. Why So Many Different Religions Then?

Despite this, many religions and beliefs arose because of:

a) Human Alteration and Forgetting

  • Over centuries, people added practices, beliefs, and laws that were not originally part of the prophets’ teachings.

  • The original pure messages got mixed with cultural customs, myths, and human desires.

  • The Qur’an mentions how some previous scriptures were changed or lost:
“So woe to those who write the Scripture with their own hands, then say, ‘This is from Allah,’ to exchange it for a small price.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:79)

b) Division and Disagreement

  • After a prophet’s time, followers disagreed over interpretations and laws, causing sects and different religions.

  • Some people rejected prophets or distorted their messages out of ignorance, pride, or other motives.

c) Free Will and Test

  • Allah gave humans free will — to believe or disbelieve, to accept or reject guidance.

  • Different beliefs are a part of the test of life:
“And if your Lord had willed, He could have made mankind one nation, but they will not cease to differ.” (Surah Hud 11:118)

4. Islam as the Final and Preserved Message

  • Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came as the Seal of the Prophets, completing and preserving Allah’s message.

  • The Qur’an is the only scripture preserved without change since revelation.

  • Islam restores the pure monotheistic faith, clarifying misunderstandings.

5. Why Do Some People Not Believe in Allah?

  • Some do not believe due to lack of knowledge, misguidance, or influence of society and culture.

  • Others may reject faith due to pride or worldly desires.

  • The Qur’an repeatedly calls for reflection, study, and sincerity:
“Say, ‘Observe what is in the heavens and the earth.’ But of no avail will be signs or warners to a people who do not believe.” (Surah Yunus 10:101)

6. Allah’s Justice and Mercy

  • Allah is Just and Most Merciful.

  • Those who seek truth honestly and act on the light they receive will be rewarded.

  • No one is punished unjustly; everyone’s circumstances and intentions are known to Allah alone.

Creation of the Universe in the Qur’an Full Explanation How was the world created according to the Qur'an? 1. Creation in Six Days Allah mentions repeatedly in the Qur’an that He created the heavens and the earth in six days . “Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days and then rose above the Throne.” (Surah Al-A’raf 7:54) 📝 Note: “Days” ( ayyām ) here do not necessarily mean 24-hour periods . According to many scholars, these refer to phases or periods of time , as the concept of “day” (based on Earth's rotation) didn’t exist before the creation of Earth. This shows a deliberate and planned creation , not something chaotic or accidental. 2. The Origin – From Smoke or Mist “Then He turned to the heaven when it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, ‘Come willingly or unwillingly.’ They said, ‘We come willingly.’” (Surah Fussilat 41:11) 📝 Explanation: The word “ dukhan ” (دخان) means smoke , suggesting the primordia...
